Experimental Assessment of Fractal Miniaturization For Planar Inverted-F Antennas
The comparison of two miniaturized Planar Inverted-F Antenna (PIFA) designs is presented in this work. In the first one, PIFA miniaturization is accomplished by adopting a pre-fractal-based geometry, while in the second design an improved version of the first configuration is considered, which uniquely maintains those geometry features contributing to the desired resonant frequency. Both designs have been realized and tested to validate the simulations. Measurement features of both prototypes, including return loss, boresight gain, radiation pattern and efficiency are presented. The discussed results fully validate the utility of pre-fractal geometries for miniaturization of PIFAs.
