The Fast Health Interoperability Resources (fhir) and Clinical Research, A Scoping Review

The scoping review reported by this article aimed to analyse the state of the art of the use of Fast Health Interoperability Resources (FHIR) to support clinical research. An electronic search was conducted, and 36 studies were included in the scoping review after the selection process. The results show a current interest in using FHIR to implement applications related to (i) clinical trials data management, (ii) data integration for clinical research, and (iii) secondary use of clinical information. According to the results, novel FHIR profiles were proposed to answer specific data requirements of clinical research.
